Frederic Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer known for his depictions of the West. For the most part, his paintings featured cowboys, American Indians, horses, and the U.S. Cavalry. His style has been described as naturalistic and sometimes impressionistic. And, unlike other Western artists, Remington steered clear of realism. His subject matter was primarily the people and animals of the West, portraying men almost exclusively.
